The Trust is proud to announce the launch of its 2025 Open House fundraising campaign! From February to April, this popular programme invites the public to discover our rich Barbadian heritage in a uniquely pleasant way.
The Open House experience helps distinguish Barbados from other Caribbean islands. Where else can you explore private homes or go behind the scenes at historic attractions? Or hear one of our outstanding historians tell the story of the very spot where you’re relaxing on the lawn with a cool beverage? Expect music, rum punch, culinary treats, and stalls too.
Come, make an afternoon of it!
The directions included on this page will guide you either from the ABC/2A Highway or from the west coast road. You can also use the Google Maps links to each. There will be Open House signs when you get close.

Bagatelle Great House

Built in 1645 and originally owned by the First Earl of Carlisle, Bagatelle is thought to be the 3rd oldest Great House in Barbados and has a fascinating history. According to rumour, the property’s loss in an 1877 card game was referred to as “a bagatelle,” which is French for “trifle,” and thus was its current name acquired. It has been renovated and extended to accommodate fine dining, function rooms and lovely gardens, but remains notoriously haunted. Today’s tour invites lingering at leisure.
DIRECTIONS: Bagatelle is right on Highway 2A between Welches and the St. Thomas Church roundabout.
